It is a rare and curious illustration of marijuana being correlated with what is called clinical jargon as priapism–an erection lasting over four hours that is not associated with sexual activity. Recently it was reported that weed causes erections for up to twelve hours.
Priapism may have serious effects, the report notes, such as”damage to the penile tissues, with remarkable destruction evident at half an hour” and”over 90 percent of these staying erect for 24 h losing sexual functioning ” The consequences can be irreversible.
The individual in the event study, released this month in the Journal of Cannabis Research, was treated in the hospital saying weed causes erections lasting 12 hours. In another incident explained in the report, he arrived in the emergency department having an erection which had lasted for six hours. He told doctors he was smoking marijuana a few nights per week for the previous six months and during this period undergone”four or more episodes of a persistent erection lasting near four weeks.” In every instance, he’d smoked inside a two-hour period prior to the erection started.
